On site and in the office, we’ve ensured wherever possible that the project team engage with the schools to provide opportunities for pupils to get work experience. To date we have had pupils working with Leadbitter in their site offices, pupils spending a day in the HLM’s office to gain a better understanding of the design process and in particular how the designs were developed for Penarth Learning Community.

Pupils also worked with AECOM, looking at both the Project and Cost Management side of the industry and developed a basic understanding of programming and the development of cost plans, measurement and the monthly valuations that are carried out by the Cost Manager and the contractor.

We have also worked closely with agencies to provide work opportunities for pupils in the SEN schools, Ashgrove, Ysgol Erw’r Delyn and Ysgol Maes Dyfan. This provided the opportunity for 5 pupils to experience the work environment with a good support system in place.

This process has provided good experience for the pupils to gain a better understanding of the exciting opportunities on offer within the construction industry.
