Community Engagement

The new building incorporating two new schools including St Cyres School and the new SEN provision, aims to a provide modern, fit for purpose educational facilities for pupils and staff.  Of equal importance is to develop a facility that all members of the local community will be able to access.

Sitting at the heart of the community, the new facility will look to build on and strengthen the existing relationships and provide a valuable resource for use by all members of the community. The developement reflects the strategy of the Welsh Government, Vale of Glamorgan Council and each of the schools to become central to the life of those that attend on a daily basis and those members of the community who wish to access the improved facilities, whether for life long learning, sport or therapy provision.

The development of the Penarth Learning Community reflects one of the central themes of the Welsh Government to ensure that there is a much closer relationship between schools and the communities in which they are located and serve, as well as providing a community resource throughout the year.

With the establishment of two new schools under one roof, there is a real opportunity to provide a range of services over and above the day to day educational provision. The collocation will enable all partners to work more closely and develop a multi layered approach to education for pupils as well as enabling staff to work across both schools and strengthen educational relationships. Improved access to life long learning, modern sporting facilities,  the development of access to therapies such as the sensory pool and health support are central to the ethos of the scheme.

There are a number of groups who can benefit through the development of learning communities including:

  • Children and young people
  • Schools
  • Parents and families
  • Wider community

Through the development of the project, we will be looking to build relationships with all stakeholders to promote greater community engagement and build stronger links between the community and pupils and build better relationships with schools.

As the project progresses it is the intention that Leadbitter Construction, through their community engagement manager will increase the level of community engagement to maximise the opportunties available throught the life of the project.  The strategy for this is included within Leadbitters community engagement plan.
